Bullfighter’s chilling final words before death
Spanish matador Iván Fandiño tragically died in 2017 after being gored by a bull during a festival in southwest France. The 36-year-old lost his footing after tripping over his cape, and the bull fatally struck him in the torso, puncturing vital organs.
Despite being conscious while carried out, Fandiño died of a heart attack en route to the hospital. His chilling last words were, “Hurry up, I’m dying.” Known for facing dangerous bulls, Fandiño had survived previous injuries, but his death shocked the bullfighting world — the first matador death in France in nearly a century.
Tributes followed from Spain’s King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. His death came shortly after that of another matador, Víctor Barrio, reigniting controversy over the tradition of bullfighting, which remains legal in parts of France and Spain.
